How to transport Cupcakes

I am unable to buy those fancy cupcake boxes to transport my cupcakes. So, I'm going to share with you an easy way to transport your cupcakes.

I do not take credit for the idea below. Couple of years ago I read about this some where, don't know if it was a book or the internet but it stayed in my head and when I became a cake decorator I started using this method.
So here it is, I hope it helps you too.

You will need your cupcake baking pan and aluminum foil.

Cut a big piece of aluminum foil about 1 1/2 times that of your baking pan. Flip your cupcake baking pan over.
Place the aluminum foil on top of the baking pan.  like so...
Now slowly ease the foil into the gaps of the pan, Like so.

Do it slowly making sure not to break the foil. Make sure you get into the depth of the curves so you get a good firm form.
Flip it over to the right side and neaten all the edges so they look presentable.

Then take off the baking pan from the foil and what you have is a cupcake holder for your cupcakes.
You can place this in a box or a foil. It's best to place it in a box that doesn't have excess room to move.
I usually use a cake box meant for sheet cakes. But here I'm also showing you a more economical option of a baking foil.

As you can see, the cupcakes do not touch each other or move. Therefore they travel well.
I hope you learned something new.
Here's the latest Tip Thursday on Facebook for you to share..

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time.
Happy cake decorating

  1. This is great! I made a single one and used a disposable coffee cup to cover it.

  2. I have to transport 150 cupcakes and bought a large sweater container to carry them in but still had the problem of keeping them apart so they would not get messed up. This is a the perfect solution to my problem. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

  3. GREAT!!! My local supplier didnt have any quarter sheet boxes (for 1 & 2 dz cupcakes) in either of their 2 stores (go figure). So i had to buy some aluminum pans. The 12 cupcakes were skating around in the pan like they were at a roller rink. Looked this up this morning and it is an excellent idea, not the prettiest presentation, but it works great! Thanks

Glad this was helpful. This was a simple method to use on the go. Almost everybody has foil containers in the house.
To make it more presentable (for customers) you could do the same thing in a box such as a sheet cake box instead of a foil container.
Some times I used these foils mostly because they come with a nice presentable see thru plastic cover... like the ones you get on your baked goods.
      I hope this helps you.

  8. Thanks so much for sharing the idea. I'm standing in my kitchen, as I type. 2 dozen cupcakes and no way to "move" them. Was going to put them back in the baking tin, but then thought "how would we get them out?" I'm reaching for the heavy duty foil next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. As a cake baker, this is my "go-to" method for cupcakes because I have found that the 'purchased' cupcake boxes DO NOT work well at all! This is the best idea ever and works well EVERY time!! Cupcakes do not move - they stay put!
