A Beach theme birthday Cake

I made this cake yesterday in about three hours.... from baking to decorating.

It was a last minute order and from a frequent customer, I just could not say no.

This could have been a great cake had it been planned in advance and time to work on the details.
For example, a beach chair, a beach umbrella, a surfer on the water, a ship in the back ground... would have definitely made a big wow.
That is why I always tell my customers order your cake in advance so your cake decorator can do justice to your cake..

Anyway, this is a 7" round cake - Vanilla Sponge cake with vanilla buttercream, home made sugar paste, royal icing recipe.

This is a single layer cake about 2 1/2 inch tall with a nice dome.

I did not level the top, but I did tort the cake and filling with Vanilla buttercream
I cut half the dome on the top and placed it on the other half using buttercream as glue.
Then a thick crumb coat of buttercream.
I rolled some marbled blue and some beige fondant.
Draped the blue on the domed side of the cake and the beige on the flat side of the cake.

Sorry I forgot to take pictures of that process.
On the blue side of the cake I spread some blue royal icing with a spatula.
And some mixed brown and white sugar on the beige side for sand.
That's how it looked.
After that I was running really late so had to stop taking pictures and work on the smaller details.
A small beach ball and slippers.. made free hand without an molds or tools...
A lady on the beach. The cake was for a middle eastern lady in her early 40's so I tried to keep her in mind when making the model.
On the back I added some find and sea weeds, free hand as well...... I thought the kids should also have some fun.
In total I added about seven fish....
Here you can see the back of the cake.
And that's all I could do in three hours..
I always try to stick to my timeline of decorating a cake but ever so often you have to break the rules and test your talent.
As much as I would have loved to do so much more on this cake I was also happy with how it came out... hopefully the next beach cake will give me more time.
Well, that's all from me for today.
Wish you all a good weekend.

Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks Shalu,
Yes, Biscuit crumbs can also be used for the sand. I prefer sugar that's all.. It's just preference.
      Thanks
