Gum paste Witch Hat

I've been asked to make a birthday cake for next week with a witch in keeping with the Halloween theme. But the mom did not want me to make the witch ugly or make the cake creepy.

Personally I too do not like creepy and scary cakes.  I do appreciate the talent that goes into it. But not sure I'd be able to pull one of those cakes. Just freaks me out!.

You see the two versions of the witch I made below... This was my second attempt. I think the face looks too pretty to be a witch. Don't you? It is still perfect for my cake because the mother insisted I did not make the witch too ugly. 

This is my first attempt. I was trying to make an ugly face. Guess what? Not sure I pulled it off..
I just couldn't get myself to make her ugly.
I know now that I will not be taking any ugly looking cake orders ! We all have our weakness right?

Anyway, here's quick collage of how I made the Witch's hat.

 I do have progress pictures of how I made both those faces but since it's not ugly. I don't think it will help you. If you guys still think you want me to share those let me know.
