Princess Doll /Cinderella Cake

7 months ago I posted a video tutorial on you tube on how to make a Princess Doll Cake that has so far about seventy eight thousand views and also a zillion email questions. One of those questions being can you demonstrate a more simple princess cake?  (Video attached at the bottom of this post)

I recently made this princess cake for a little girl name Meela. I wanted to make some thing different than what I had done so far.
Now, I'm not sure if this comes in the category of simple but I hope it will give you a different design to consider.

You will notice that this cake is  larger than the one in the video. Unlike the Bowl cake in the video I baked two round cakes here, a 6" and a 7".

I stacked them, 6" on top of the 7" and then rounded off the top to get the skirt shape.
Note: There is a board under the 6" cake when placed on the the 7" cake. Since my cake was going to travel I used two dowels in the 7" cake and a center dowel that went from the bottom of the cake to the head of the doll... Yup!
Now I did not take pictures of the basics as you can still refer to my video tutorial on the cake pan, filling upto crumb coating.
So here we start with the basic of a crumb coated cake.
I'm using two shades of Pink here. Take the second color of fondant and roll it out and cut a triangle.
You can leave it plain, or texture it (I've use a skewer here to make lines as you can see). Then place it on the front side of your cake. Like shown below.

Next, roll another piece of the second color and cut a rectangle as shown in picture one. Then cut at an angle to get smaller triangles as shown in picture two. I'm using the skewer to texture the pieces as shown in picture three.  Store them under a plastic or folder to keep them from drying out.
Next roll out your first color into a large circle. My cake is 10" high so my circle was 20" in diameter. (sorry I forget to click the picture of the full circle, so I clicked this while I was cutting it.
Next cut the circle in almost half or may be2/3. (If you cut in half you will have a less flare) the more you maintain the circle the more the flare) I wanted a little flare so I cut it like soo... (I hope it's making sense)

Then place the cut our triangles of the second color as shown below. I have made the center triangle longer as you can see by just rolling it a bit more length ways. I'm using a skewer to texture it again.
Next place it on the cake. with the split facing front where you placed the first triangle. Move it around to get the desired skirt effect.
Next use your Garrett frill cutter to make a line of frills in front and around the base. This is optional you could do another design to hide the borders as well.
Next start working on the body. Here again you can refer to my video.
Add details as you need. I'm adding small flowers, a bow and a crown. I did not have time to make a crown so I just used a flower cutter to make something similar to a crown.. I kinda liked it..
And viola!!! A Princess cake!
Here are a few more designs that I made this last year as well as my video on you tube of making the princess doll cake.

And the Video.....

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Until next time
Happy cake decorating
