I hope you all are doing well.
Today I wanted to share with you my little doggie cookies. This post is a special request by Edna from Minnesota. She saw these on my sugar cookie collage and asked how I did them. Since I already had the progress pictures I thought I'd share them.
Aren't these cute.
Why Rolled Royal Icing?
The First reason - The weather here in Israel for most of the year is really hot and humid. As we all know Royal Icing and humidity really hate each other, thus causing a lot of problems like color bleeding, blotchy spots and takes FOREVER to dry.
My Second reason - Most often I do not have the time to decorate a large batch of cookies with Royal Icing; but most importantly;
My Third reason - I do not have the place to dry a large batch of cookies with royal icing; especially because my two little ones are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 years old.
At such times I have to use rolled royal icing. It's just like fondant but dries harder. So its still royal icing but an easier option for me.
Most of my customers care more about how cute the end product looks and how tasty the cookies are. I do sometimes do these exactly the same way with flooded royal icing and they of course are beautiful in their own way. (So please; those of you who love using flooded RI, please don't get all emotional on me, I'm not taking anything away from flooded RI, I love it too!)
So here they are.... Edna I hope I'm not late in posting these.
The cookies are my chocolate sugar cookies recipe I posted earlier.
I explained how and why I attach the cookie sticks here in my post - How to roll and cut sugar cookies.
You can do these with Fondant exactly the same way
You could do the same design with flooded royal icing too.. Here are some tips if you do these with
Flooded Royal Icing
Ensure your back or white outlines are completely dry before you fill in the flood icing.
For the accents I prefer to let the white and beige flood icing dry first. Then, I add the dots so the black won't bleed into the light colors.
Well, thanks for stopping by.
Until next time. Happy cookie decorating.
Hi Veena,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting these pictures. You are so kind and helpful. Thanks also for sharing your rolled royal icing recipe with me. It made my life so much more easy. I think I like this rolled version better than the flooded Royal Icing. I ran out of it so I did the last few with your sugar paste and I must say that is a winner. I absolutley love the sugar paste recipe. Tasty and easy to work with. I can tell from your email that you are an amazing person. I hope some day I get to meeting you and thank you for your blog. It has made my life in cake decorating a lot lot more easy. I leared so much from you. I have tired most of your recipes too.
Thanks again and look forward to more of your post

What is rolled royal icing? Is there a recipe for it? Could you please share the link. I looked for it on your blog and internet but no links. I hate decorating sugar cookies with Royal Icing and most customers don't like sugar paste... please I would be very greatful. Thanks

These are the best dog cookies I've seen. So adorable. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are a genius! Rolled Royal Icing? Oh my god what is that? Can you please please share the recipe. I bet it will be amazing. I'm still trying to get over the sugar paste recipe. I don't believe how awesome that recipe is. I hate fondant but this one is actually tasty and a dream to work with. Thanks you are amazing. I admire your talent.
