Hand Painted Cinderella Cookies and Cupcakes

Hope you guys are doing well. I have been really busy this week with orders as well as unwell kids.

I usually accept only a certain amount of orders per week because I work alone from home. So juggling between kids, home, dinners and cakes is a big struggle sometimes.
However, it is difficult to say 'No' to returning customers even when it's a last minute order. I am making a Pink Sponge Bob cake today. Yup! Pink.. tell you more about that on another day.

Anyway I was quite happy how my Hand Painted Cinderella Cookies turned out.
I made these for a six  year old girl as party favors with her Princess Doll Cake..
A while ago I also did the same technique on my Cinderella Cupcakes.

Here are the cookies

And these cupcakes
I did take some progress pictures for you, so you can try doing them for your little princess too. It's a lot easier than it looks. Trust me.

You will need -
A picture you want to trace.
Here I'm showing you Cinderella but you could use anything really... I've done Spider man for my son too. Just make sure the size of the image fits inside the cookie.
A cookie (obviously) - that has been flooded with Royal Icing and completely dried.
These are my Honey cookies (I'll post the recipe for those soon too)
I had no time so I use my rolled royal icing but have tried both rolled and flooded RI  before and both work well.
Paint and Brushes - read more about that in my post Painted Cookies

Trace the design first on a piece of parchment paper or baking paper using a food grade pencil. These can be found at any cake decorating store.
Trace on the back of the design first. Then flip the paper on the cookie and trace the front of the design holding firmly.
This is what you should have. Your pencil mark may not be so dark. Mine was  less too.
I used my pencil to make it more obvious so the camera would catch it.
I usually work is batches of three or five at a time.
Now start painting... You can check my post on painted cookies to know more on the paint and consistency I use. This is food gel colors with water.( you could also use clear alcohol)

Wilton Ivory for the Skin color.
 Lemon yellow for the hair.
Blue for the dress and hair band. Red for the lips. Blue for the eyes.
Black or Blue for the necklace. I used brown for the outline but you could use black.
You could also use edible food color pens or brush for the smaller details. I used only brush on these cookies.

Voila..... A Cinderella Cookie for your princess.

Tips
  • Make sure your cookie canvas is dry or you will have uneven spots when you trace the design.
  • Just dampen the brush with color - do not make the brush too wet.
    Use a small size brush.
  • Do not overlap the paint. Let one place dry first before you paint the adjacent side. Example - wait for the yellow hair to dry first before you pain the blue hair band. That way colors won't bleed.

Cinderella Cupcakes
You could do the same on the cupcake.
The only difference is that you use fondant and traced on the fondant while it was still soft.
Of course; you do not want to cover cupcakes with fifty fifty or very firm fondant. So the fondant has to be fresh,  that part is tricky but it is still possible to do.

I have a video on how to paint on fondant - I did the Homer Simpson cake then but you could use the same technique for this. It's a very old video but hope it still helps.

I hope you do try these cookies or cupcakes.
Until next time, happy cookie decorating.

Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Shalu, Thanks for the compliments.
Actually I'm very afraid of painting and honestly don't think I am any good at it. That is why I have to rely on tracing these.
I started venturing into painting because my son's teacher always complains that he doesn't like it much.
I do not use Marshmallow fondant much. But the next time I make it I will post the recipe. It think it's the easiest of all to make.

Yeah, when the kids are small it is a big challenge but these are things I love the most. My kids and my cakes.
I like cooking too that is why I prepare all dinners and goodies at home with make my day a lot more demanding.
      I still love it....
      thanks for the comments
