Hope you guys are doing well. I have a couple of cakes I want to share with you but haven't had the time to work on the post. I will try and do that soon.
I think you will love them. One is a my 'Women's Vanity Pouch Mini Cake' I made for Women's Day but have still not shared with you. I think you will love those. Today I am working on a Horse Ranch Cake - with a gum paste horse and......... tell you later.
Here's another small little cake I made as a gift for a friend's son's first birthday. Isn't it cute?
View from the top.
Can you see the red fondant got a bit messed up.. That's what happens when you have too many distractions around while working. That's my son trying to convince me that the cake should be his and not given away!!!
Lucky the cake was for a friend or else I'd have to do all that all over again.
Sometimes it's best to leave small imperfections rather than make a bigger mess trying to clean up the small mess. Know what I mean?
As usual I baked my cake in a small oven safe glass bowl. I would prefer to make the cake board bigger and add brown sugar for the sand but my friend thought sugar might be a messy affair with her son.
So I just put Ivory fondant and used the shell tool to make impressions.
For the fondant strips.
I did not have a template! I had to make one.
I took the same bowl that baked the cake in.
Flipped it over. Dusted it with corn starch so nothing will stick.
I used the dome of my bowl to cut my template.
Measured the circumference and the height of the bowl;
Then cut out a circle of parchment paper using that measurement.
Now I have a template.
I folded this template equally into 4 (more for a bigger ball)
Cut out one triangle from the template
Used that triangle paper to cut out all the triangles on fondant.
I placed all the fondant triangles on the bowl first.
Once I was satisfied with the result - I transferred them to the actual cake.
That's it.
Sorry I didn't take pictures - I actually forgot.
Been having a really busy week. Next time; I promise.
I hope my explanation still helps.
Thanks for stopping by.
