How to make gumpaste Drapes and A Wedding Cake

I hope you all are doing well. Today I wanted to share with you this beautiful wedding cake I made.
The cake itself is kept simple and white. This is my Vanilla Creme Cake recipe with Vanilla Buttercream and home made sugar paste.
The roses are two tone so they start with golden yellow centers and then fade out to almost white. I love the glow it gets from the golden yellow.
I wanted to share with you how I make drapes on a cakes. So I thought I'd do that today.

I use 50/50 which is 50% gum paste and 50% fondant. Some dowel sticks, luster dust.

Roll out the paste to a rectangle shape and cut out any extra. Roll it fairly thin.
If it's too thick it will have a very bulky look to it, and the pleats will not form well.
If too thin it might tear.
If you wish to make the drape shinny - I luster dust the paste at this time.
Can't tell much from this picture. But you can add as little as more dust as you want.
Place some dowels under the paste like so. Using your fingers - run them along the dowels to form the paste such that the pleats stay.
Let set for about 3 to 5 minutes. Don't let them be too long or the paste will dry too fast. Looking like elephant skin when you work with them.
Remove the dowels and  gather up the pleats to place on the cake.
You can either place them as one long piece or cut them to the lengths you need.
You can place them length ways like so or ...
Double them up.... making sure you cover the seams well .
I made two of the same rectangles and place them like so. Then dressed the seams with roses.

I hope you find this post helpful.
Until next time.

Thanks for stopping by.

    1. The roses are made with only gum paste. I did not make any tutorial for roses because there are really tones of videos on you tube that show the same. I don't do any different from them.
      Thanks.
