Base Ball cake, Soccer Ball Cake and a Gift Box Sheet Cake

As promised today I want to share with you three cake I did last week.

The first two are for two eight year old twins. One is a Base Ball fan, while; the other is crazy about soccer.
The mother was looking for a more affordable option so instead of a 3D cake, she chose to have two round cakes.  These are both 9" round cakes.

Very simple and yet perfect for any sports fan. Don't you think?

The Base Ball cake is my Chocolate Chiffon Cake with Chocolate mousse and decorated with home made sugar paste/fondant.
The Soccer Ball cake is my Light and Fluffy Vanilla cake with Strawberry mousse and decorated with home made sugar paste / fondant.
For both cakes I started off with a cake covered in white fondant.
I would have preferred to do this part with royal icing but ....I had to refrigerate the cakes due to the mousse fillings, and couldn't use Royal Icing.
So I sat and did this by hand. Simple old fashion style, rolled out the red sugar paste and cut small logs..
Not a fun thing, I could have use the clay gun but ....... didn't have it on hand either..!
 This is the top.

The soccer ball was very easy because I had the cutters so I just cut the shapes out and stuck them accordingly.
I did one more cake for a lovely lady who turned 40. She usually always takes cakes from me for the rest of the family, but this time I got an opportunity to meet her confused husband.
Her husband said he's wife always complained he never got her enough gifts (where have I heard that before?) anyway so that's how we decided to design it like a gift.
This was my Chocolate Sheet cake with Chocolate Ganache and homemade sugar paste.

Well, that's all from me for today. Hope you liked these cakes

Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Hi Veena,
I'm planning to make soccer cake shortly. Could you pls clarify the following.
    1. Can strawberry mousse be made today and refrigerated to use it after 3 days?
    2. How to incorporate black color on the fondant as I don't get black food color or gel color nor do I get gumpaste. Any other idea?
    Thanks.
