Buttercream Ruffle Cake

Today I want to share with you an absolutely easy easy cake... I have seen so many pictures on the internet about these Ruffle cakes and I always assumed that they would take fore ever but.. not really!

Like it?

This is my Chocoholics Chocolate Cake. I will be posting the recipe for this cake next week. You will absolutely love it.. (I hope).
With White Chocolate Buttercream. Just added melted white chocolate to my Vanilla Buttercream.
I would have preferred to use Meringue buttercream but due to the heat and humidity I decided other wise. And of course my home made fondant / sugar paste.

I did take pictures of the process for you but - honestly it's just one simple zigzag motion all around the cake.
Here's my crumb coated cake.. I know it's embarrassing, but hey after a long day managing cakes and two kids on summer vacation - trust me - a fancy crumb coat is the least of my concerns. Besides it's 11 pm and I'm already almost asleep...!
Fill your piping bag with buttercream and a rose petal tip. I used 104. You could use a smaller or larger.

Hold the bag at right angle. Pretend you have a pen in your hand. And attempt to write a zig zig sign from bottom all the way up. Just move your hand left right left right......picking you bag as you go..

Make sure your tip is touching the cake at all times so the buttercream has something to attach itself too.
Here's a close up. Try to keep them all the same width.
Here you see the bottom tier is all done..
I did two rows of ruffles on the top tier before I placed the small cake.
Exactly the same way. Zig zag, but this time on the top instead of the sides.
Next I started piping the ruffles along the sides of the small cake.
I used two dowels and a center dowel for support under the top tier..
and there you have it..... Did the same on the top as before but this time from the center to the middle. about five rows...

I do hope you try it... It's looks a lot more difficult than it really is.

Here's a great video tutorial by sweet and saucy on you tube that shows how to do it..

Thanks for stopping by.
