Hand Painted Cookies

I have always been very fascinated with the art of hand painting. But I'm not really a skilled painter.
In the last few months I have been watching loads of you tube videos on all sorts of painting. The ones that take my interest most are the flowers.. obviously because I love flowers so much.

So, I made a few recently; you know, just simple stuff.
Rose, cherry blossoms , poppy and peonies..
And some tulips, poppies and simple flowers again.

For those of you interested -
To paint I usually use my gel food colors with vodka and some good quality brushes. Some times I use luster dust with a drop of vodka.

In these cookies. I first covered the cake with Royal Icing flood consistency or some times my Rolled Royal Icing. You could also use fondant. Let the base dry really well so it want get bruised by your paint brush.
On some I just painted leaving the white canvas as is because I liked the white back ground. As in the first picture.
For some I used dry luster dust and gave a white canvas a mist of colors.. depending on what I was going to paint on them. That way I had a hue of color in the background too. Do not use wet colors for the background because even when they dry they will interfere with the colors of the flowers you paint.

You can find my sugar cookies recipe - here on my blog  (Sugar Cookies Recipe) or
you can download the Sugar Cookie recipe card on my Facebook Page - Sugar Cookie Recipe Card

Here's a close up of the peony I tried.
 An unopened  rose profile.
Some Cherry Blossoms..
I do hope the little explanation of what I do helps you with your painting experiments.
And I do hope you like these simple hand painted cookies
